Showcase

Welcome to my showcase page! My name is Lexi Ivy and I’m an Animation student at Freestyle Academy. Outside of school I like to take care of indoor plants and draw in my free time. My love for animation began when I was in 6th grade and I discovered animation YouTubers. I’m so happy I got the chance to learn how to animate because I probably wouldn’t have had the motivation to teach myself.

For my showcase project, I wanted to feature an animation that I’m the most proud of creating during my time at Freestyle which is my Narrative 1 project. This was a group project but since I only worked with one other person, I had enough of my own work to be able to show off since I animated all of the convenience store scenes. Although we weren’t able to fully animate our vision for the story, this animation is about an overworked fish who works as a photographer. At the end of the day he heads over to SeaVS to get a snack before heading home. After grabbing a bag of chips, he notices a strange void within the shelves and decides to take a picture of it. But when he develops the picture, something strange happens.

(I animated from 0:16 – 0:46)

In my reel, I featured projects from both my Junior and Senior years in Animation along with two personal animations I’ve made. This was a nice way of seeing how much I’ve grown in my art and animation skills throughout different mediums.

When I came to Freestyle, I was initially nervous to start animating because I can be a perfectionist when it comes to art and I feared being in “the ugly” stage when creating animations. But as I made friends in the class and realized how we’re all in the learning stage, my fears faded away. I was able to find my own style and what felt the most comfortable to animate in a supportive, judgement free environment which I think played a big roll in my growth as an animator. Knowing how much I’ve grown, there are some projects I would want to re-animate or expand on such as my lip sync or my narrative 1 projects because although I’m proud of them, knowing how much I’ve grown, I know I can create a similar animation in a higher quality.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to review my work!
