For the Humor project, like the the name suggests, we focused on different humor techniques and what makes them successful/unsuccessful in certain situations. To start off the unit, we read Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse Five”. Throughout the novel we studied what techniques he used, and discussed why they worked/what was the underlying message he was communicating.
Our final project was pretty broad, we had the ability to create any humorous project using specific techniques and having certain humorous influences. This almost made it more difficult because the options were so vast, but ultimately I really enjoyed the creative freedom. We also could work in groups, so Jane, Rachel, and I decided to be in the same group, just like we did for Worldbuilding. We had so much fun working on this project, coming up with ideas, filming, and editing.
Our final idea/outcome was a mock reality tv show: “Balenciaga, Baby!”
Our main inspirations were dramatic reality tv shows like the Kardashians or Dance Moms and the main techniques we used were caricature and absurdism.
Our loose script/planning:
Our final project:
When I first heard about this project, I was honestly a little scared of it. When the project was introduced, we had a lot of weird schedules, which meant we had a lot less time for the project than originally planned. I think this helped me feel more relaxed about this project, because there was less pressure. I really had so much fun with this project and I am so happy with how it turned out!
