Narrative Ring Art in Digital Media

“How well can you apply advanced narrative techniques to build a compelling story?”

The Narrative Perspectives unit challenges students by exploring different narrative points of view and learning advanced storytelling techniques for projects in Digital Media, English, and elective classes (film for me).

In English, we read and analyzed 1984 and some shorter narrative works, built our own world in groups and researched specific elements of that world, individually presented our research, and did a final industry-style pitch of our completed worldbuilding project.

In Digital Media, we used Visual Studio Code, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Pro Tools to produce a Narrative 2 website as well as a Music Recording webpage. We learned to record music as the Audio Engineer in our studio with invited musicians as the “musical talent.”

In Film, we learned advanced pre-production, production, and post-production techniques. We wrote a 10-page screenplay over three months and several total rewrites and revisions. In those same teams, we filmed, and edited an 8-10 minute short film. We learned advanced cinematography and lighting techniques, moving camera techniques, and how to Adobe After Effects for visual effects.
