For this prompt, I mainly focused on the impact of lighting on visual weight. I was also particularly inspired by the idea of “heavy as a stone, light as a feather.” When looking through my house and backyard for scenes that fit these two ideas, I noticed the dramatic lighting on our birdbath. I felt that it provided a very interesting dynamic surrounding visual weight, as the brightness and simplicity of the ground on the left balanced very well with the darkness, size, and detail of the birdbath on the right. Not only this, but the fact that the birdbath is made of stone offered a very strong connection to the phrase “heavy as a stone.”
