The Documentary project is centered around a person place or thing in our community. The Idea is to create an informative project about this in both a written, and visually creative medium. For me, this meant writing a documentary paper and creating a documentary film with multiple interviews and B-roll. This project emphasized a narrative driven style of journalism.
My Documentary was a profile on the Director of Design at Apple, Doo-Ho Lee. The documentary was about him, his unique perspective, and how he influences those around him. I was influenced by the many documentaries we watched in class, and the way they framed the profile.
I especially valued the experiences that this project gave me. arranging and performing an interview is a difficult and often daunting action, however by requiring multiple interviews, I was pushed out of my comfort zone and was able to grow as a result.
My Research paper used a mix of personal interviews and outside research to craft a documentary about Doo-Ho Lee.
Mockumentary Film
The Mockumentary film was made to practice the basic understandings of a documentary. We created a story and characters in a comedy based mockumentary to learn how to shoot an interview and use b-roll in tandem with interviews.
