1 Minute Movie

The 1 minute movie was a project where we wrote a 1 minute movie script with a group. The next day, we handed the script to another group, and received a new script, with the task of filming and acting it out. The next day we once again swapped projects and were told to edit the new one. The whole point was to see how a creative vision can be totally changed throughout the filmmaking process, particularly in an environment where work gets passed from writer to studio to producer to editor.

1-Period Film

The 1-period film had a very simple concept. Write film and edit an entire short film in the span of 1 period. Nothing more, nothing less.

Lighting Scavenger Hunt

The lighting scavenger hunt was an exercise used to get us into “film mode”, practicing how to paint the canvas that is the film screen with different kind of lighting to give unique effects.

Senior Narrative Film

The Senior Narrative Project is the crown jewel of the freestyle film program. Our biggest and most expansive project to date. The project covers all aspects of the filmmaking process, starting with the basic idea, then the pitch, the first screenplay draft, final screenplay draft, planning out the filming, filming, editing, and finally, assembling the final cut.

My film, titled Blackout, has the logline: When a man begins to periodically black out, he comes to realize that his subconscious has a sinister agenda.

The synopsis goes something like this: Luke is an every day dude, young, working, and living with his girlfriend. After waking from a frightening nightmare, Luke begins to have periodic migraines, leaving him unconscious. As the night progresses, his situation worsens as he realizes that when he blacks out, he cannot control his violent tendencies. In an effort to protect his girlfriend Natasha, Luke attempts to distance himself, but realizes there is only one way to stop the horrors of his subconscious.

Dialogue Scene

The dialogue scene was a short project, focusing on practicing directorial and on set skills, while getting some acting experience. My partner and I decided to memorize and act out the very long intro scene to Pulp Fiction.

Reflection

Overall, the Narrative 2 unit in film was AMAZING. The small projects were all fun and unique, and the final narrative film was a blast to make. It was easily my favorite freestyle project I have made during my 2 years at here, and I could not be more proud of the final project. It taught me how to be organized and see a project through from the first concept to the final cut. Although this had been done during out last narrative unit during Junior year, this project raised everything tenfold.
