Hello! My name is Annie Marcelino! I am Filipino-Korean American. My friends would describe me as creative and thoughtful, as well as stubborn and “prone to brain-farts”. I love painting, and I enjoy exploring new ideas through my artwork. One of the long-term ideas I’ve been exploring is cultural identity, so you’ll see a lot of Korean and Filipino elements in my artwork; I love to merge the two. The most obvious element is usually my color palette, which is often inspired by Korean temples. I also take inspiration from other artists, such as Gustav Klimt, Hieronymus Bosch, Jean Dubuffet, and Egon Schiele (check them out!!).
I absolutely loved my time at Freestyle, and I wouldn’t have decided to pursue a fine arts major if it weren’t for it. I also wouldn’t have gotten into Carnegie Mellon University if it weren’t for what I learned at Freestyle. I’ve gotten such a head start just from the Adobe programs we use, and I’ve gained interest in things I never would have considered at the start of juinor year, like video editing and music making. Not only that, but the community at Freestyle is absolutely amazing. All the people I’ve met are incredible, and I still talk to some of the seniors from last year. Some of my closest friends I’ve made were met at Freestyle. The teachers are all so fantastic as well (love you Ms. P!) and they fit Freestyle so well. There are so many talented people here, and I’m excited to see where they go. Thank you Freestyle!!
