When the word “balance” comes to mind, I think of something equal on both sides, perfectly aligned, and stable. I wanted to explore the idea of balance being being consistent and similar, nothing starkly different from everything around it. I chose to photograph one of my family’s favorite holiday traditions, which is gifting gift baskets of treats to our neighbors. But I had to capture this subject in a unique sense to showcase balance. I decided to focus on one gift basket while featuring others in the background. This photo is balanced in the sense that it allows the viewer to feel a sense of harmony with the similar colors, textures, and shapes of the subjects in the photo. In some sense, I feel that the holiday season does bring some balance to the otherwise stressful hustle and bustle of my everyday life.
