Introduction
Our main task in English this unit was our Lyrical Essay – an artistically structured essay about a subject we were passionate about. Apart from certain research restrictions, this project was very open-ended and allowed us to express our passion the way we wanted to. From Furbies to film-bros, my English class spanned the full spectrum of passion projects, and it was so much fun to hear from everyone and see how they interpreted in the prompt of “Lyrical Essay”.

Lyrical Essay Production
I chose to create a sculpture for my Lyrical Essay Production. Initially, I wanted to use wax to create my sculpture, but I later switched my materials to a combination of cardboard, tinfoil, and pipe cleaners. I wanted to demonstrate the main thesis of my Lyrical Essay – the unfairness that I felt was so common as a female-presenting person in artistic spaces. The figure at the left of the piece represents how I feel: trapped in my own head and being spoken over by the figure in the middle. Meanwhile, another figure watches a television with books stacked on it, representing the media that is skewed towards the sort of people that make people like me feel uncomfortable in artistic spaces.
