11. Balance

Swaddled by Light

To intentionally capture the “Accidental Renaissance” style seems redundant, but what it actually refers to is simply a composition with intense contrast in lighting and a strong sense of balance. I believe I captured both of these things in this photo. I chose my sister to be the subject, because I was quite inspired by the way she was lying on my bed, and the way she looked in the window light.

I chose to frame the photo such that light cascaded to the center, where the subject is, and that darkness surrounded the subject from the bottom and left side. The lighter color of the bed provides a sort of frame for the subject and makes them stand out more against the darker surroundings. The rays of light from the window offer leading lines to the subject to enhance the magnetic quality to the center.

I think I did well to capture the feeling of the “Accidental Renaissance” style.
