26. Geometry

Monolith

Recently I was in San Francisco, where colossal forms of concrete and steel surge into the sky, their shapes dictated by clean unwavering straight lines. Only occasionally interrupted by a window or ornamental carving, the lines by which these great skyscrapers abide seem to continue on into infinity. An endless upward trajectory of rectangular precision.

I zoomed my camera in for this shot, because I wanted the building to take up the full frame, to show its great power and scale. The low perspective contributes to the towering height and imposing stature of the subject, and the many rows of windows recede seemingly endlessly off both sides of the frame.

I like this photo, and I loved being in San Francisco to see some amazing art at the MoMA.
