Another chance encounter from my hiking exploits, this deer’s remarkable stance was too haunting and fascinating not to capture. I once again happened upon a buck, but this time he was balancing on his hind legs to reach some leaves. When I first saw it, it was dark and I was tired, so I couldn’t immediately tell it was a deer; that’s when I realized that it would be perfect for this prompt.
I put my flash on to capture the subject, which shows in the increased brightness of the foreground elements. These brighter parts also serve as a natural frame of sorts for the subject, and lead the viewer’s eyes to him. The subject itself is slightly blurry and blends into the background a bit, which adds to the disorienting effect and amplifies the strength of the “lie.”
