Deadly Sins

I took this photo while recording a song for another Digital Media project. Music is such a huge part of my life and it is has helped me through rough times, as well as cheered me on in really good moments. I play the piano, not very well, but enough that I know how fun and how challenging instruments can be. Piano has always been my favorite instrument, so I really wanted to capture it for this photo. I decided to make it black and white because I feel it makes the piano the center of attention, rather than the musician or the backround.

The inspiration for this photo was film noir and some of the themes old movies portray. I took this photo on a school trip with my friends, and I edited it once I got home. The setting was just so perfect, with the high ceilings and grand fixtures, while also not drawing attention away from the two sillouettes. A common character in noir films is the “femme fatale,” a mysterious and seductive woman who leads men away from their goals. I have always been interested in this character and wanted to show her in this photo. I used silouettes here to convey the mystery of these two characters.

I took this photo in December during a Christmas Festival. I loved the colors of the Christmas lights and thought my brother’s sillhouette was perfectly framed. The photo was already colorful to begin with, but I did some color grading to really make the colors pop. I also wanted to emphasize the reflection of the lights on the ground.

Fire is an element I resonate with, so I chose to take this photo over other elements. For me, fire represents passion and drive, but also comfort and coziness. All of these things are a part of my values. For the image itself, I really wanted to focus on just the fire, but also highlight what it can do. The image represents the coziness of roasting marshmallows, but also the ability fire has to burn.

I took this picture while doing a dance photoshoot with a close friend. We had just watched a couple clips of the ballet Swan Lake, and both wanted to take some photos inspired by the production. I really wanted to highlight the water as well as my friend. I decided to keep her legs out of it to give it a more ethereal look, having her directly framed against the water. She has no visible contact to land, which really relates to the themes in Swan Lake.

For this prompt, I took a photo of my dog. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, especially this puppy right here. He’s been with me through so many ups and downs and my life wouldn’t be the same without him.

For this image, I photographed a set of very colorful and vibrant nutcracker dolls. I thought this was a really interesting thing to put into black and white, because I feel these dolls can represent us, or humankind in general. So often, we put colorful or dynamic people into two categories: black or white. These people, however, are so much more than that. This photo brought up a lot of new ideas for me.

This might seem weird, but a person who really inspires me is actually my little brother. He is always so forgiving and resilient, and I am always in awe of his willingness to just keep going. Of course, he has highs and lows, but when he falls, he’s back on his feet in a flash. He surprises me every day and I want to be as fearless as he is about being myself.

For this prompt, I took a photo of my little brother and our cousin making pizza. These two kids are so fun to be around and I love them so much! I felt this scene captured their energy and excitement as well as their innocence. From the unicorn headband on my cousin to my brother’s lack of pants, this image captures the animation of childhood and reflects a lot of my family’s values.
