I took a different approach to this prompt. Instead of showing my family’s culture, I decided to show the culture that I grew up with and is still a part of my life. Dance culture. I took a photo of an empty studio to really highlight the lighting here. I also made it black and white to capture the difference between the light and the dark parts of the room. For me, dance has always had highs and lows, some really good moments, and some really hard moments. I wanted to display both of those in this image, and I felt the lighting and use of black and white showcased that well. Dance culture is both wonderful and brutal, and that is what I wanted to display in this image.
