Showcase Introductory

Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Nevo Shaked, and I am an animation student in Freestyle Academy. Within the last two years, I think I have evolved significantly as an artist. I came to Freestyle without any knowledge of how to animate and didn’t even know what Maya is. I ignited my passion for Freestyle by learning 2D animation, 3D animation, screenwriting, storytelling, and photography. Outside of Freestyle, I play basketball as a hobby and get inspired by comic books and animated movies/superhero.

In the future, I want to be a 3D animator. That’s why I decided to showcase my Senior Narrative project, which is the first 3D-animated film I’ve created. I learned how to model, create texture, use lighting, and, of course, animate. As I developed this project, I had the realization that this kind of work is what I want to do for my career – basically, to bring new life to the characters I’m working with. The second project I chose to present is my animation reel. In this particular video, I took my favorite clips from the films I made at Freestyle and made them into an emotional rollercoaster. It begins quite sad and depressing, but as the video continues, it starts to get more light-hearted and funny. I made this choice because all of my films have sad moments and some uplifting moments. I thought my animated reel represented my projects quite well.

I am really excited to hear what you have to say about my projects. I would be happy to hear where I can improve. In particular, does the animation ever feel stiff? If so, where? And, how would you suggest I resolve this problem? I would also like to know how if you think my use of lighting was appropriate to each scene.

I am still not sure about college. Right now, I think I will work hard to make a good portfolio, and then try to get accepted to animation schools. As an initial step, I’m thinking about working on my portfolio at De Anza Community College. I would like to hear your thoughts about this path and any suggestions about what I should do next to work toward my career goal.
