For this picture, I took a pencil holder I sculpted a couple years ago and positioned it on the corner of a desk, with half of it over the edge. I then clipped a light to the desk and angled it so that when the lights were turned off, it only barely illuminated the ridges of the sculpture. I picked this subject because I thought it had a sense of drama, which the low angle and the dramatic lighting would enhance. Also, I thought the curve of the spine would look more dynamic with a low angle.
