My grandmother is a very special person. She’s part of a group called Los Humanistas (The Humanists) in Latin America that seeks to connect people and support them through kindness, understanding, and empathy. It has sort of a spiritual connection, talking about “souls” inner strength, but she isn’t actually religious. She tries to be open-minded and unlike a portion of the older generations today, she admires and respects the younger generations for the change they are trying to bring to the world. Aging doesn’t have to be a stubborn deterioration period of one’s life, it can simply be the extension of your past selves trying to keep up with the world shifting around you. My grandmother nurtures and tries to fix and forgive the mistakes of the past, and although she is never and was never perfect, she is an especially valuable person for the growth she has gone through.
Mi abuelita es una persona muy especial. Es parte de un grupo basado primordialmente en Latinoamérica llamado Los Humanistas, que busca conectar a la gente a travez de la empatía y la benevolencia. Tiene un aspecto un poco espiritual también porque usan conceptos como “almas” para explicar sus creencias, pero mi abuelita no es verdaderamente religiosa. Ella intenta aceptar y entender a la gente joven de hoy en día, a diferencia de una parte de los de mayor de edad. Ella es un caso ejemplar de que el proceso de envejecimiento no tiene que ser una deterioro del ser de uno. Puede ser simplemente una época de experiencias nuevas y diferentes. Mi abuelita intenta salir adelante de sus errores y dificultades, y aunque nunca fue ni nunca será perfecta, es una persona muy peculiar por el esfuerzo que ha hecho por cambiar.
