Narrative Visual Perspective in English

Narrative 2 introduced us to the lyrical (or lyric) essay, a hybrid creative nonfiction genre that merges the lyrical (yeah that’s where the name comes from) elements commonly found in poetry with the likes of essays and memoirs. We read and analyzed works such as Citizen by Claudia Rankine, and some lyric essays from The Book of Delights by Ross Gay, serving as inspiration for our original lyric essay project. Creature of the Night, as follows, reflects on a very peculiar beast you might have found once or twice in your life (and also appears a lot on my blog). I won’t reveal much more, so go ahead and check it out! ^^

Lyrical Essay Production

As I was writing the essay, I imagined how fun it would be to make a Furby Mythology textbook filled with oddbody creations…. so that’s exactly what I decided to make! I illustrated furby portraits with Clip Studio Paint (which is similar to Photoshop but has a more intuitive interface and brushes) and designed the basic layout with InDesign. Here is the final product and a few progress shots!
