Multi-Layered Art

Once again working from our English story, we got to make layered art inspired by our narratives. I was nervous starting out on this project because my pieces usually have lots of color and depth, and working with paper and negative space was very new for me. I partnered with Mars, which was tons of fun and allowed us to combine our stories together which was very refreshing. Working with a partner slowed down the process of getting everything done, but it was still lots of fun and I am very happy with the finished product.

One thing that really helped me during this process was making a copy of the Illustrator file to fill in the layers with a gradient to make it show depth like it will when the lightbox is assembled. This part of the process was not only really fun but helped me catch a few mistakes that we may not have noticed. For example, our buildings did not originally have a background, so all the windows would be big holes shining all the way to the back, which would not have looked good. The solution was easy, we just added solid walls behind all the buildings and it still looks amazing.
