Narrative Visual Perspective in Design

Introduction

In Design for this unit, we create various projects, and two of those projects are related to the Worldbuilding project in English class. Before starting any project in Design, however, we make “mood boards” which are a visual representation filled with ideas and images to use as inspiration for the project we want to produce.

Product Logo

For this project, each student had to choose a product to design a logo and create a label to. I picked sunscreen as my product. IncaSkin (the name of my brand) is a sunscreen brand with the purpose of protecting people from the harmful rays of the sun. I wanted to design a logo and a label for a sunscreen product because I believe that wearing sunscreen is important for everyone. For many of the sunscreen products I see in my local store, the label designs are overflowing with a lot of information and the design is not something you can appreciate. This is why I wanted to go for a minimalistic design for my product.

My moodboard

Here is my final logo design! I have also included the label that I created to place on my product (sunscreen) and a triptych of my logo design in other merchandise.

Here is my triptych! This includes other merchandise such as a shirt and a tote bag with my final logo design on it (placed on both ends of the triptych). In the middle, I have my label design on my sunscreen product.

Movie Poster

For this project, I designed a movie poster based on the worldbuilding narrative treatment assignment that I collaborated with two partners (Lindsey P. and Jacqueline L.).

The story that I collaborated on with other Freestyle seniors was about a 30-year-old man who discovers that he is the murderer of a well-known scientist and must unlock the secrets of his past life to survive the revenge of the scientist’s younger brother. Our protagonist has two identities. In his past identity, he was a criminal leader of Crim (a group of criminals). However, after being brainwashed and relocated by the government, he gains an identity as a lonely office worker.

My moodboard

Here is the final design of my movie poster for this Worldbuilding unit. During this project, there were several times where I changed my ideas and it was difficult to settle down on one, but I’m glad it turned out like this!

Book Cover

After creating our movie posters, we created a book jacket based on the Worldbuilding story my group (Jaqueline L. and Lindsey P.) and I worked on in English.

Reflection

The projects that we have worked on throughout this unit are by far my favorite ones. I have learned a lot due to the freedom we were given to produce these projects. I enjoyed making projects that are connected through a topic such as the movie poster and the book cover. The product logo design project was lengthy but very enjoyable due to the process of making the final logo design, it felt truly amazing learning so much because of these projects in our Worldbuilding unit!
