Narrative Visual Perspective in Digital Media

Introduction

In our Digital Media class, we were assigned to create a multi-layered art piece related to our Worldbuilding project in English. This project required students to create 3D art through the different options available such as layered wood, lightbox, and wood rings. For this project, I picked layered wood art!

Sketch

Below, I have the sketch that I made before starting the process of creating my multi-layered art. I think this sketch does reflect the worldbuilding project my group (Jacqueline L. & Lindsey P.) and I worked on in English. This is mostly focused on our protagonist who has two identities (Sam – present identity & Virion – past identity). I have a broken mask on the right and a black aura shape that is on the left, this signifies how our protagonist is throughout the story. He is learning more about himself, especially his dark past as Virion, who is a criminal leader and a murderer of a well-known scientist.

My sketch

Digital

In Adobe Illustrator, I took my sketch and placed it here. I used the pen tool and created masks to create this digital version of my sketch. I also added more elements to my digital product because I felt that it was too empty with just the person with a broken mask.

After I finished with my digital product, it was time to set it up properly in order for the laser cutter to cut through the wood and make the pieces I needed to assemble my final product.

Final Product

This is my final product! I got all the pieces and with a simple brush and wood glue, I started to assemble all of this together. The fragment surrounding the broken mask is related to certain scenes of the Worldbuilding in English, so make sure to read our Narrative Treatment!
