I’m Maya Lacy, a Junior at Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy. I’m taking Animation as my elective class this year, along with the other two courses at Freestyle: english and digital media. This year I’m looking forward to exploring my own creative capabilities both in my classes and outside of school. I spend the majority of my time after school working as the lighting designer for the fall plays, spring musicals, and student-led musicals (the Drama Llama productions), but when I get the chance, I love swimming, windsurfing, and spending time in nature.
In terms of some of my core values, I strongly believe in the cruciality of attitude and optimism both every day and especially during difficult projects– as I see it as critical while pursuing my goals.
I chose to become a Freestyle student because I really liked the way that freestyle approaches learning. I liked how the English and Digital media classes were connected and were working in accordance with each other. This along with the grading system, schedule, and projects, showed me how well-thought out this program really was, and it addressed many of my grievances I have had in the past with the regular education styles. Additionally, I was drawn to the Digital Media class as it sounded like it would teach me skills that have previously blocked me from continuing some creative projects, and I look forward to that knowledge and the freedom I will have throughout my life. I liked the focus in the English class on areas and topics that interested me, and how deep of a dive that the English sounded like it took into every project. I was most excited for the Animation course, as I’ve always wanted to further pursue my love for animating and animation in film.
