Photo Blog #35: Rule of Thirds Emotion

milo rathbun – composition

In this photo, I wanted to use the rule of thirds to make the viewer feel loneliness. I arranged the photo so that two similar cars would be on the left side of the rule. These two cars are both red, similarly shaped, and model Ferraris. To contrast these cars I chose a black Lamborghini to go on the rightmost box of the rule. Since there is both an odd number of cars and a contrast between the groups the viewer is drawn toward looking at the black car which is facing away from the others. By this car being the overall subject the viewer can connect with it and attach an emotion to what they are viewing (hopefully loneliness)
