Yo! Here’s a little bit about me:

My name is Reed Keenan and I am currently a junior at Los Altos High School and am attending Freestyle Academy for film. I have found interest in the digital arts for a long time whether it was taking photos or making fun little edits in my free time. Over the past couple summers I have started to get more serious about film and I knew Freestyle was the best place for me to go to expand my knowledge.

Outside of my love for the arts, I am a huge athlete. I have been playing sports since I was three years old and haven’t stopped since. I started off playing soccer at first but have ended up playing a variety of sports such as football, track, volleyball, water polo, baseball, and basketball. However, most recently I have been focusing on basketball as it’s been my favorite sport for the last couple of years, and complements my height the best. I don’t know where basketball will end up taking me, if anywhere, but if I am given the opportunity to play at the collegiate level I would absolutely love to.

Additionally, I am also really into fashion. I believe fashion is one of the best ways to express yourself and show who you are. You can design it, cut it, do whatever you want to paint your own figure. Through the way someone presents themselves you can learn so much about them, and thats something I think is really cool about fashion.

Coming back full circle, I am really enjoying Freestyle Academy. I was very lucky to be put into Freestyle Academy and it’s an opportunity that little to no other school districts have to offer. All of the teachers and my peers are so unique in their own way and it adds to the awesome community we have. It is a once in a lifetime experience and I am very grateful to be apart of it. I can’t wait to learn more this year, grow amazing friendships, and just start creating some incredible things.

First Year at Freestyle

My first year at Freestyle Academy, although mostly online, was definitely one for the books. Academically, I think it made junior year one of my favorite years ever. All of the projects we did across the three courses I took: Film, English, and Digital Media, expanded and challenged my knowledge in so many different ways. At the beginning of this school year, I was no sort of digital artist, had no idea to create even the most simplistic songs, but now I can say that isn’t the case. Through learning Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Pro Tools, I have expanded my skills and knowledge of the arts in so many ways. And if I choose to continue to get better at these applications, in the future, I will be able to use them as a way to earn money which is something I am eternally grateful for to Freestyle. I was able to create so many incredible things by essentially given all the creative freedom that I wanted and I’m super stoked on learning more and continuing to create next year!
