Culture Through Food

F3.75 ISO: 400 1/20 Lens: 18-55mm

To represent my culture, I decided to photograph a Korean-Chinese dish, jjajangbap (짜장밮 black bean sauce with rice). Typically, it’s served with noodles (짜장면 jjajangmyeon, black bean sauce with noodles) but rice was more convenient for me to make that tonight. I’m half Korean, but only really ate Korean food when I was with my grandparents. More recently, I’ve been trying to cook more Korean food myself. 짜장면 is one of my favorite dishes, so I just recently decided to make it myself. It took a couple tries to get right, but now I can cook this whenever I’d like. It consists of cooked black bean sauce containing scallions, onions, zucchini, pork, cabbage, and is usually topped with pickled radish or cucumber.
