About this Podcast

The Dreamcast is about taking a deeper look into the theories behind why we dream. In addition to these theories, we try to connect them to our own dreaming experiences and analyze them to find out which theory we think is the reason we have our specific dreams.

Alayna

My name is Alayna. As I am writing this, I am a senior at Mountain View High School and Freestyle Academy. Since elementary school, I have been an artist who has dived into multiple types of creative arts including drawing, painting, clay making, crocheting, cardboard cutting, and more. I focus to turn my hobby into a career, as I am majoring in fine arts and graphic design for college. Outside of doing art, I also enjoy spending time with my friends and really enjoy partaking in other arts outside of traditional crafts like playing musical instruments and video editing.

Leanna

My name is Leanna Chun, I am a senior at Mountain View High School, and I am a student studying at Freestyle Academy. I have always been interested in art and graphic design, so I decided to join Freestyle to learn new skills and find other people who have the same passion as me. Outside of school, I like to draw, hang out with friends, and volunteer for my community.

Quinn

I’m Quinn, a senior attending Freestyle Academy. I’m looking to major in digital art during college and love storyboarding and animation. I listen to podcasts while I draw, walk, or do chores because they allow me to stay concentrated on my task while also serving as great entertainment and inspiration.

Introduction

I believe we are doing a podcast project because podcasts are filled with different styles of new and old English commentary. Whether this commentary would be scientific or completely conversational, there are aspects to podcasting that pop out compared to a normal essay. A lot of the scripting that goes into podcasting is typically made so then average people can understand it. It combines creative art forms of writing with speech and editing that making this project incredibly unique. Especially since these are listeners who are being spoken to, it adds an additional element of storytelling and metaphors involved in the creative language.

The inspirations I have for this podcast are mostly conversational podcasts. In the beginning of brainstorming for the dream podcast, my friends and I were also inspired by conversational podcasts. We planned to talk conversationally about our individual dreams until we came upon theories about why we dream. From there, we were inspired by scientific podcasts and instead shared a tidbit about my own experience with dreams only at the end instead.

Reflection

I really valued the time I had researching with my friends on this topic and the time we spent together recording our podcast too. It felt more inviting to do the podcast with other people and the overall experience was especially exciting with immediate feedback and support. I really grew to get better at speaking and sharing ideas and think that first-time podcasters should consider doing podcasts with friends. I think that being able to collaborate with others for a podcast makes the experience all more enjoyable.
