Story Telling

Your Culture

For this photo blog, I decided to take a photo representing my culture that was brought down onto me from my ancestors. This is Chinese culture. I am Cantonese, and my family used to live in Guangzhou within Southern China. Within Chinese culture, it is common to see people wearing jade bracelets. Jade bracelets are a sign of wisdom and wealth and itself is used to protect the person/their family. As for the keychain, it is common to see cats when entering restaurants or a Chinese home which represents fortune. In this picture, I am holding a keychain of a cat with Chinese characters underneath. The characters are placed in a diamond similar to a Chinese coin. The keychain itself has fancily threaded string through the top and a mop end which is very common with most Chinese keychains.
