Center Frame Portrait – Loneliness
For my center frame portrait, I took a picture of my dad on a lone bench staring into the horizon. I decided to make it grayscale to emphasize the negative feelings that usually accompany loneliness.
New Beginnings
We were tasked with telling a story of new beginnings, so I decided to take a picture of the first watercolor painting I did on my sketchbook. I made the brush I used blurry to give better emphasis to the painting as if the viewer were getting lost in it.
Trash
We were challenged to use trash as our inspiration. I decided to take a picture of a trash can in front of flowers to make it seem like they are growing from within it and play with the contrast between the saturation of the flowers and the muted tones of the can.
Balance
We were tasked with taking a picture portraying balance in an accidental renaissance style. Here are two of my furbies chatting casually. Balance is shown by their placement on the lines of the rule of thirds grid; their colors contrast with the muted background.
Hometown
Our challenge was to tell something about our hometown. It would’ve been impossible to take a picture in Brazil, so I decided to use one of my dad’s photographs. In his image, there were many colorful balconies, some with clothes and towels hanging. So, as if the frame were a window to my past, I…
Black and White
We were allowed to take a black and white picture of any subject we wanted; When I went to the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, I couldn’t help but notice this huge terminator statue’s contrasting values.
Leading Lines
We were supposed to portray the concept of infinity through leading lines. I used the lines of the floor tiles in a park and the reflections of the water to frame and endless world of water fountains and sky.
Love Story
Our challenge this week was to tell a love story. This is my border collie, Skylar. We’ve had this pup for 2 years now, and our family wouldn’t be the same without him. With his intense stares, sleepy whines, and hyperactive cuteness, Sky always lights up our day.
Weight or Mass
Our challenge was to use weight or mass as inspiration for a picture, so I decided to shoot an image of the bell I have hanging outside of my house. It moves really easily with the wind and has this spiritual lightness to it.
Symmetry Landscape
We were supposed to take a symmetric picture of a landscape without any editing. I was looking around for symmetry while walking my dogs, and I liked the superposition of warmth and cold of the grey house and the auburn red trees. The artificial shapes, like the rectangle windows and triangular roof, contrast nicely with…
