Aging

This week’s prompt was, “Love it or hate it, aging is something we all experience. So tell us the story of Aging in a single photograph.” At first, I tried to look at the nature around me for things like shriveled leaves next to green buds. I wanted to find something unique to show the process of aging, and though I did get several nice-looking photos, I didn’t think they really fit the prompt. However, it was only after I given up and gone back inside that I realized the perfect photo had been right in front of me the whole time. I asked my mom if I could take a photo of our hands together. I like the photo I took because it shows more than just the original prompt I was given. My mom’s experienced hand and my youthful one are intertwined in the image, evident of the strong bond I have built with her. She guides and teaches me, and I am so lucky to have her. Her aging does show up as wrinkles in her skin, but it also marks the knowledge she is constantly accumulating and wisdom she has gained. Knowledge that she imparts on me without hesitation, all in an effort to help me grow. I am sure she will read this a some point, so… I love you Mom!
