Behind the scenes process of “writing” in the dark using a flashlight

For this week’s photo challenge, I had to take a picture using long exposure on my camera that demonstrated the idea of “New Year’s Lights.” I decided to play around with this concept and experiment using a flashlight in the dark with long exposure. By turning the flashlight on and off and moving it around, I was able to write words and draw pictures in the air. I discovered that if the flashlight wasn’t facing the camera straight on, less light would be visible in the picture. In my final pictures, you can see that the places with less defined light are where the flashlight wasn’t facing directly forward. I think with practice, I could work on this skill and be able to create very interesting photos.
