Introduction
The Conceptual Unit emphasizes creative risk-taking through art, poetry, online web production, and other kinds of digital media. This forces students to express themselves in their own way of style. Students develop these skills with professional equipment such as DSLR cameras, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Premiere Pro, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, WordPress and Google apps.
Free Verse Poem
As one of the assignments in the poetry unit in English, we wrote poems as a way of responding to our concept statements and conveying a message. I decided to use my free verse poem rather than my ekphrastic poem because in my free verse we were able to write whatever we wanted. My poem is a response to a personal connection I had and the emotions I experienced. I then recorded my poem, created cover art on photoshop, and made a visual with the text of our poem.
I valued this project because it taught me how to use pro tools to edit and add sound effects to my poem. I learned how to design a photo poem to make my text pop out.
Photo Haiku
In English, the first unit we learned was haikus. We had to create haikus based on concept statements picked for us randomly. Mine was “I am exploring the feeling of anguish through a long walk”. In my haiku, I was challenged to use kireji and kigo, which are techniques used in traditional Japanese haikus. Kireji is used as a cutting word, transitioning or connecting two lines. Kigo is a word that can be used to directly or indirectly associated with a specific season.
I valued this lesson because it helped me understand how to use Premiere Pro, how to make text move from one side to the other and how to make a text come from far to close. Another thing I learned was how to be more figurative than being literal when expressing my feelings.
Elements and Principle of Art
This project was a fairly easy and simple task where we had to make a google presentation searching up images for different kinds of elements and principles that can be used in art media. For each slide, you had to show three images, one photography, one traditional and one modern art.
