To create a symbolic self portrait that doesn’t include my face, I decided to take a photo of my nightstand. I thought it captured my raw self; it’s a place where I put random things that I use in my everyday life, and often are too random or used too frequently to put away. My nightstand is something I look at as soon as I wake up, and the last thing I see before I go to bed. It’s probably the most used area of my room, and the least acknowledged. It’s messily organized, which is a reflection of how I am as a person.
