For this photo, we were asked to photograph something colorful, but make it black and white. I looked around for something colorful and decided on a rug/tapestry that my great grandfather had made. The tapestry is very colorful, with bright reds, greens, and blues. I took photos of it from many different angles, and ended up going with this one because of how it showed off the patterns. In Photoshop, I added a black and white filter, but that wasn’t the end of the work. To represent the distinct, bright colors of the original, I increased the contrast and adjusted the value for the red, green, and blue hues in the image. This allowed each section to look distinct, implying the variety of colors and also emphasizing the patterns of the rug. Overall, I’m very happy with how this photo turned out, and I think I did a good job capturing its color, despite this being a black and white image.
