For this photo, we were asked to fill the frame with a single color. I looked around for brightly colored things to photograph, and I decided on a small pink rug that I have in my room. In order to fill the frame with a single color while still making an interesting photo, I wanted to choose an object that had texture. After taking a few photos from different angles, I edited the image in Photoshop. First, I used various layer masks for color correcting, making sure that the image matched the actual color of the rug. Then, I added tilt shift to blur the top and bottom, in order to create dimension. After using it for many photo blogs, tilt shift and the similar iris blur have become some of my favorite effects to use in Photoshop. I like how they can create emphasis and dimension, and also enhance the natural blur of non-focused items in a photograph. In this photo, I tried to use it to suggest how the image is something small that has been zoomed in. Although it is very simple, I’m quite happy with how this photo came out. I think up close, the texture of the rug sort of looks like coral.
