Narrative Visual Perspective in Film

Since I only got into film a little over a year ago, I hadn’t actually worked on a film with a crew before. Senior Narrative would be the first. It was a months-long two person project that involved completely creating a film from scratch, starting with elevator pitches and ending with our final cut. Although it was extremely difficult, and on many occasions made me want to run around screaming in frustration, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to work on it. My teammate Jules was a great collaborator and mentor figure, and I really enjoyed being co-directors for our film.

REFLECTION:

I valued the safety net that comes from pre-production. During the actually filming process, there’s literally months of planning to fall back on. Of course, things won’t always work out how you plan, but even a little assurance is helpful when you’re on the verge of crashing out. Other than this practical aspect, another thing I value about the filmmaking process is that it’s just plain fun. I love writing scripts. I love shooting them. Hell, I even love editing footage sometimes, even though it can be extremely janky and infuriating most of the time. I’ve just barely become involved in film, but I know it’s what I want to pursue.
