Film

In film, we were challenged to create a video essay for the reflections unit that “showed the audience what it was like in our head.” This project was hard for me, as I much prefer to be behind the camera than the subject of a film. However, I really enjoyed crafting a narrative around an aspect of my personality. This was also my first time writing a script for a film, and although it was not in screenplay format, it was interesting to incorporate voice-recordings into my film.

Behind the scenes of shooting my video essay

For some of these shots (such as the one pictured in the BTS photo) I had to set up the camera on a tripod, press record, and then act in front of the camera. Operating like this was very difficult and I definitely learned the importance of a big crew on set.

Overall, this semester of film class has taught me so much about preproduction, production, post production, and the film industry. The video essay was a great chance to reflect back on my passions and interesting habits. Starting the senior narrative project was a large undertaking, and I am looking forward to continuing to move into the production stages next semester. I am so grateful for Freestyle and film class for giving me these amazing opportunities and I cannot wait to see what I achieve in film next semester!
