In English, we started the Narrative 2 unit by reading Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine. I loved this collection of lyrical essays and after analyzing Rankine’s writing techniques, I was able to write my own lyrical essay. (My intention statement is below my essay)
Reflection
I have always found creative writing challenging, and this project was no exception. However I loved that lyrical essays allowed nonfiction topics to be woven into creative writing in a way that makes the information more emotional and engaging. Having free range to include images and poetic language was so much fun and a great learning experience after so many years of writing traditional essays in English class.
