Personal Projects

6th Man Hype Video

This project may be my favorite personal project I’ve done, so I had to feature it on my website! Because I am very involved in the 6th Man club at my high school (the student section at MVHS sporting events), the club president asked if I could make a spirit video to advertise the student section the morning of our white-out football game.

Even though it was last minute, I immediately agreed and started charging my camera battery in the ASB room to get ready. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to go home after school, so I shot the entire video with only one lens: the 50mm. But that was not the biggest problem I faced that night; the 6th Man had decided to throw baby powder in the air every time our team scored a touchdown. While this looked really cool on camera, I quickly realized I was risking my camera’s life as it became covered in powder. Luckily, after a couple of touchdowns, I learned that I could avoid most of the powder if I shot while standing on the track.

Editing this project was a creative reset for me because it was so fun and not school-related. I loved capturing the joy and excitement on my friend’s faces, and I realized how grateful I am for my amazing school community. As a senior, it was the perfect time for me to make a video like this because I am experiencing my last high school football games after a year of Covid. I will cherish this video for years to come as a memento of my time at MVHS.

Battle of the Classes Promotional Video

Shooting in Rancho San Antonio

This video started as a wild idea proposed during a brainstorming meeting. Due to Covid, MVHS had not held Battle of the Classes since 2019, and ASB was determined to promote the event as much as possible for a strong return. You can hear excerpts from that very meeting in Ava and I’s podcast (if you can make out words in between all the yelling).

After people proposed their crazy visions for this video, I realized we had some serious work to get done to make it happen. With the help of Emily and Felicia, we started shooting at a slow but steady pace in February. About a month later, school administration dropped a bomb on our plans: Battle of the Classes had been moved from April 18 to March 28. Yes, you read that right, a month earlier than we had anticipated. (Fun fact: my favorite moment of the video actually came from this unfortunate situation. Because we had already shot the final scene, we had to have Tyler voice-over the date of Battle of the Classes and it does not fit at all. It adds character.) Frantically, we scheduled short blocks of filming in every ASB class and tutorial period possible.

After lots of work (and many hours of editing in the film room), we finally had made the video of our dreams.

The people in this years’ class are very special to me, so making this video with them was an honor. I can’t wait to look back on it when I’m older and remember how much fun we had making every crazy, dream idea we could think of into a reality.

MVHS ASB Website

I have managed the ASB website for Mountain View High School since my junior year. My favorite part of managing the website is taking and updating the pictures. Before I ran the website, there were no images of MVHS students. My goal became to take pictures at every single event and make the front page of the website reflective of our student body! (If you are looking at this after May 2022 I no longer run the website but I hope they continued to display our diverse and spirited student body!)
