Self-Portrait
My first photoblog at Freestyle was a self-portrait where we could not show our face. Now, as senior year is ending, we were assigned to revisit that prompt with the slight variation of showing how others view us. I think this picture is a good example of how people view me: an artistic person who…
Modern Convenience
Over spring break I travelled to Hawaii with my family. One day my family woke up early to watch the sunrise and I captured this beautiful photo. The modern convenience of traveling is something I am so grateful for.
Deadly Sins
Taking a photo inspired by one of the seven deadly sins (pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth) was very difficult. I ended up with this photo from when I helped plant new redwood trees at Camp Hidden Falls. Hidden Falls is another one of the GSNorcal camp sites. Although not in a negative…
Film Noir
Film noir is a concept I have studied for cinema, so it was interesting to research its applications in photography as well. It’s not a style that I particularly enjoy, but I recently began shooting film photography, so this challenge was a great opportunity to use one of my recent 35mm shots. This photo was…
Storms
For our first photoblog of 2022, we were challenged to photograph storms. There hasn’t been much crazy weather in the Bay Area, but it is ski season, which means herds of people driving up to Tahoe for the weekend. As a skier I am grateful for storms because they create beautiful powder days. I took…
Seasons
As a Californian, I love traveling to places that have real seasons. I took this photo in February on our trip to Utah. It was the perfect season to visit the Utah National Parks because the snow and cold weather deterred many tourists and the trails were almost empty. And the white snow, in contrast…
Color Without Color
This photo was taken by me and edited in Photoshop to be black and white. I think it conveys color despite not showing it from the strong contrast in the mountains, sand, and sky. The leading lines from the truck tracks draw the viewer’s eye to the mountains. Overall I love this image and I…
Friends and Family
Although it may not look like it at first glance, this photo reminds me of my family because the shadows are my dad and I watching the sunset at Polihale beach in Kauai, Hawaii. This photo takes a unique angle on a sunset as it shows the light and shadows that the sunset casts instead…
My Culture
This picture embodies the culture of summer camp. I took this photo of a fellow Counselor-In-Training, Dory, teaching our campers how to make a campfire from tinder, kindling, and fuel. I love the mentorship and love for passing on knowledge and outdoor skills that is shown here.
Freedom
Freedom to me is being able to explore new places and have new experiences. The way that the landscape outside of the car is completely different than anything you would see driving in California represents freedom. Additionally, the car itself represents freedom because it is a vehicle to new places.
