Humor

Introduction

For our final English project at Freestyle, we were tasked with creating a Humor Project! Using well-known comedic works such as Slaughterhouse-Five, we studied different comedic techniques and humorists to better understand how we could incorporate those into a project of our own. Being our last project, the Humor Project was essentially a way to just let loose and have fun while making the project.

I really valued being able to watch all the humor projects at the end of the project. It was a great experience being able to share laughs with the entire senior AM class, and also see how others responded to my own humor project. We had a lot of creative freedom in what kind of jokes we wanted to make as well as the form of comedy we wanted to create, so it was nice being able to tap into my witty side.

Humor Proposal

For my Humorist Study, I chose to analyze the works of Ryan Higa and SNL, as I admire their witty and relevant parody skits! As a result, Taylor and I chose to make a short parody skit about the Met Gala, as it’s a current and relevant event that we’re both really passionate about. With our humor project, we used comedic techniques to exaggerate many of the outfits and behaviors seen at the Met Gala within these past few years, and criticized how some of its most absurd aspects have become normal.

For our humor script, we made lots of references to current day pop-culture jokes that we’ve seen in the media. For example, we referenced Doja Cat’s bizarre cat interview at the Met Gala, the Hailey vs Selena feud, and more! Although we didn’t follow our script exactly in our video, it was still a helpful tool that helped us to plan our humor project better. Click on the image to view the full PDF!

The Final Project

Below is the final humor video we produced being showcased in English! Although the video obviously is not a high quality film, it was still fun being able to play around with our video and laugh at small mishaps that occurred.
