Reflections

Reflections, is something that looks back at you. But now I am reelecting on one of my favorite units at Freestyle, this unit I was challenged to look into my past and future. I learned about my morals and who I want to be going forward, I learned more about my creative writing poetical. Through my personal essay writing, along with reflecting on my past in our Design class. With the summer collage and then a Public Service Announcement (PSA). Overall this unit taught me a lot about my self and who I want to be as a person going forward.

My Core Values: Accountability, Compassion, Courage, Honesty, Curiosity, Integrity, and Loyalty

Here are my Core Values!

Mandala

Black & White

In one of our initial assignments this year, we had the opportunity to explore mirror imaging in Adobe Illustrator to craft their own Mandalas. The objective of the mandala project was to visually express their fundamental beliefs, emphasizing both aesthetic appeal and uniqueness with intricate details. For my mandala I wanted to create something timeless, so I chose to do circles as they are never ending. But also having lines that dont have end points, to display constant change.

Beach

When finishing the Black and White mandala, the next creative mandala involved crafting a colored mandala. In approaching this task, my aim was to have connection to something personally meaningful— the beach. Throughout my life, I’ve had a deep love for the beach, finding tranquility in its peacefulness .

Lazer Engraved (Mandala)

Pizza Bord

After finishing both colored and black & white we had the ability to chose how they get printed out. With many options I wanted to have something that I can gain use off of — Pizza board. So I picked the black & white to be engraved on to the wooden board. After taking a series of photos I found this one ^ and I am very pleased of how it turned out.

Personal Essay

The Personal Essay gave me a chance to dig into the question “Who am I?” in a more profound way. At first, I wasn’t sure how to start, but I pushed through my uncertainties and started recalling significant moments from my life that shaped who I am now. Writing the essay turned into a meaningful journey, letting me think back on both forgotten and cherished memories. It feels really good to say that the essay truly represents who I am, and I’m proud of the effort I put into it.

Design

In my design class’s reflection unit, I’ve been examining myself and the choices I make in my designs. While tackling different projects, it’s not just about the appearance but also about understanding why I make specific creative decisions. Going through this self-reflection has revealed that my design choices often mirror my personality and life experiences. It’s been interesting to see how I’ve managed to weave a part of myself into numerous projects.

PSA Project

Final PSA

In our Design class we were tasked to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA), about something that is important to us. I made to do mine about how dirty public transportation (PT) is. You will see a dirty low lit subway car, filled with trash that is empty. The reason why I chose to do this is because pubic transportation is a valuable and a necessity for thousands of people. That is constantly over looked and people need to take care of their soundings. Another reason why I wanted to do this is to shed light on the littering epidemic in big cities that public transportation is one of the main source of transport. And I feel that people need to be more aware of others that rely on PT. For the creation of the PSA I used photos found on the internet and used Adobe illustrator to create the whole background. Some of the new techniques that I used was turning the text into an outline so that I can edit specific parts of each letter, for the tagline. One part that I had difficulty was the depth perception in the subway car but eventually was able to overcome the perspective. All in all I had so much fun during the creation for the PSA.

Aboriginal artwork

Final Aboriginal

In my Aboriginal artwork, I used many different aspects of my astrology life and the Aboriginal symbol’s. When making this we were tasked to create something that represents your astrology sign and the Aborigine life, so I wanted to do a two faced snake to represent the Geminis. As it is a common misconception. Secondly I used the wind symbol behind the snake as the Gemini’s element represents air/wind, and used dots to fill in both of the symbols.

To make this artwork, I used the paintbrush tool in Photoshop. It took a lot of time, but it was satisfying. The main problem I faced was not being able to move the dots once I put them down. The only option was to erase and start over. The snake in my piece took the longest to create. I placed many small dots, and it took quite a while. If I did it again, I’m not sure if I would change much about my work.
