Negative Space

Spring to Summer

Negative space photography, this week’s assignment, has to be one of my favorite compositional techniques. I believe it allows you to see the bigger picture of an area without having too many complex objects interfering with one another. It’s minimalistic and pleasing. So, for this week’s assignment, I decided to head over to Westwind which has a huge area of open space allowing for a nice landscape photo. In order to get this photo, I positioned myself far and to the left of the trees to get a smaller view of them, allowing more space, while also being positioned at somewhat of a low angle to catch more of the colors in the grass-fields. In the end, I think it turned out nicely and the colors make it pop, but ideally, I would’ve liked to take this photo at the beach with one person being centered far away into the composition as they look into the waves. Maybe I’ll get a chance to do that sometime soon!
