Food

This week we took photos of food that we’ve been enjoying. Here are some of my favorite meals and snacks from this spring:

Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai
Hat Yai (Portland)
Voodoo Doughnut

Using Props

For this week’s using props theme, I found some difficulty in deciding what to photograph because of our current shelter in place situation. I found inspiration in the water droplets in the shower and decided to spray oil and water on the glass to create prominent water drops. I set up some lights, opened the window, and edited the photo in Photoshop.

Storms

Storms are a powerful force of nature.

With the recent more gloomy and raining weather, this week we took photos of a storm. Since there are rarely any storms where we live, I took a trip to Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay to photograph what it looks like right before a storm hits. The beach was deserted and thick fog and clouds covered every bit of the sky. Thankfully, I was able to get my pictures and leave before the thunder and rain began.

Current Events

Normally college campuses are bustling with people in the spring who are soaking up the warmer weather. Current students are running around campus for class and prospective high schoolers are visiting and attending admitted student events. However this year, universities all across the country have been sending students home, and those that don’t leave stay quarantined in their dorms. All campuses are desolate.

Depth of Field

During vacation, I took this picture which is partially underwater to play with depth of field. We were challenged this week to use depth of field to make the subject appear part of something larger. I like this photo because it makes those who see it feel as though they are in the pool. Additionally, since the lens is wide, the photo captures a lot more of the atmosphere.

Deadly Sins

GREED

This week we chose a deadly sin and then shot a photo that represents that deadly sin. The deadly sins are pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. I decided to take a photo of an industrial complex and factory that had many pipes billowing with smog and fumes that are polluting the air. I think that this photo accurately represents our ignorance toward climate change and the environment, and our greed to produce as much as possible for maximum economic profit despite the negative effects. This was edited with VSCO (hate to be basic but it’s true haha).

Musical

Music is part of the soul, so this week I let it inspire the photography for my blog post. This photo was taken at a concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre and was one of the best value concerts that I have ever been to because the venue was so close by and we had bought our tickets months in advance. I went in with Photoshop to edit the sunset a bit and to add grain and color so the photo would look like it had been shot on film. Music is such an integral part of my life so I am extremely excited that I am able to share it visually on the blog.
