Rule of Odds

My Wall

The Rule of Odds is essentially based upon the idea of placing an odd number of objects within the composition. As stated by Expert Photography, “When we need to process an even number of elements we tend to pair them up. This separates the whole image into pieces. But when the image is made up of uneven elements or an odd number of them, our brain can’t pair them all together.”

So essentially, it creates a feeling of discomfort almost.

The composition in this image above is my wall behind my bed. When I was hanging these items up on my room it was pretty interesting looking back on it because I knew off the bat, I didn’t want two items hung up, I wanted three. Ands although it is said that an odd number of objects is more discomforting, in this case, three was more comforting to me and most of all, visually pleasing.
