Balance Accidental Renaissance Style

“World’s Collided”

This week, we were challenged to take a Balanced Accidental Renaissance style photo. Renaissance art is pretty unique and has a very particular style to it. I’ve never really taken an art class that really goes deep into renaissance art, so I picked out one of my Mom’s books from college that specifically focuses on renaissance art. After looking through quite a few pages I noticed that all the faces have a particular look. Ironically, we have a sculpted piece that looks exactly like that laying around in our kitchen area. While scrolling through the book I also saw an example of two sculpted figures looking at each other. So, to recreate that photo I took the sculpted face that I had and put my cat, Waffles, right next to it. After finally getting him to cooperate, I was able to get him to be in the exact position I wanted him, staring the sculpture directly in the eyes. In terms of the balance of the photo, Waffles and the sculpture are almost split evenly across the composition. In the end, this was a really interesting compositional topic for a photo blog challenge and the photo turned out a masterpiece in my opinion. Might even have to frame it on my wall!
