When I took this photograph, I focused on capturing all of the details and textures present. The composition I created was interesting and colorful. However, many of the colors were undersaturated and dim, making the composition less interesting than it could have been. Using Adobe Photoshop editing of the raw CR2 file, I was able to add color saturation to the image. I also added more colorful highlights in the sky and increased the contrast.

While doing this, I kept in mind many aspects of color theory. It is important when manipulating a photo that you don’t stray from the original color palette the photo presents. As a photographer, you have framed the photo in accordance with your understanding of what is pleasing. However, when editing the colors it is easy to forget why you chose to capture the colors how you did, and using more contrasting, louder colors is enticing. While adding saturation and highlights can make the image more appealing, in order to maintain and improve the quality principles of color theory have to be kept in mind.
