There can be a lot of beauty in negative space. It creates a peaceful and calming feeling, and can often bring out the beauty in the rest of the image. I tried to bring out the detail on the mountains in the distance and the water in the lake by having a large portion of the image being just blue. Not only is the blue visually pleasing, but it helps you pay attention to the small and otherwise not noteworthy details that I wanted to capture.

In order to take these pictures I had to hike over to a spot on the snow where there was some view of the lake and mountains. Once I was there I looked for something in the foreground to make the piece more interesting, and found the small tree in the bottom right corner that I used to frame the image. I was really glad I found it and I think it gives a nice finishing touch.
