This photograph was taken at the Oakland Zoo festival of lights. There were countless light attractions throughout the zoo, including the small room depicted in this photo. The room was fully reflective, and at the far side there were multicolored patterns being projected onto the rest of the room. I wanted to capture the interesting light patterns while using the people (two of which are my family members) as foreground to add interest. Due to the extreme contrast in the piece they ended up as silhouettes, which intended to they wouldn’t make the composition louder than it already is.
After I took the photo, I felt it was too loud still due to the many contrasting colors. I took my photograph and edited it in photoshop, adding a partial overlay layer as well as converting the image to black and white. This made the image more cohesive will exaggerating the light distortion and abstract patterns captured.
