Narrative 1

At Freestyle, the Narrative Unit allows Juniors Students to practice storytelling with characters, storyboards, and digital art, while also deepening their technical communication skills in order to test the question: “How well can you visually tell a structured story?”

Projects within the unit include writing fictional short stories, graphic designing, and narrative films and animations. Students are given the opportunity to use equipment and applications such as Wacom Digital Drawing Pads, lighting equipment, down shooters, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Pro Tools.

I’m very thankful to be have been able to create the variety of projects we were prompted with during this unit, for I was able to learn not only how to manipulate different digital tools in order to communicate a story, but how to create one from scratch as well. Personally, I believe I’ve improved greatly as a visual storyteller thanks to this unit as I was able to learn how the basis of a three-act story and the methods of how to stitch each act seamlessly into one complete story.
