Film Noir
This week’s challenge was to tell a story using Film Noir. I decided to photograph my friend in a dark coat with her hand on her face as Film Noir heavily incorporates the use of lighting and shadows.
Modern Convenience
This week’s challenge was to “Create an image that looks like an advertisement for your favorite Modern Convenience”. I decided to make a 70’s-inspired Ad for a toothbrush by combining multiple photos of my hand holding two toothbrushes in different angles and adding film texture, color overlay, and a 70’s font on top.
Seasons
As the weather is changing this time of year, we were encouraged to find inspirations in the seasons for a photo. I decided to photograph my friend in a winter coat looking up at a tree whose leaves have turned red and fallen.
Color without Color
This week’s prompt was to take a photo that shows us a colorful story, but do it in black and white. I chose to photograph my friend staring out into the distance at a lake, as nature is very colorful and would normally catch your eye, but in black and white, she stands out.
Friends and Family
“Telling the story of someone you know well is sometimes the hardest story to tell.” For this prompt, I chose to photograph my friend in a field of brown grass with a mysterious expression as to convey the difficulty of telling other people’s stories.
Culture
This week’s photo challenge was to “Take a photo that shows us the story of your culture”. Since I am multiracial and celebrate many different cultures, I decided to photograph my magnet collection of different world locations in order to showcase my multicultural life. I put the Lausanne magnet in focus in the photo, as I was born in Switzerland and felt it was most important to me out of all my magnets.
Freedom
This week’s challenge was to tell a story of “what freedom means to you”. When I saw this jet in the sky, I was inspired to photograph it for this prompt because I felt that they were a good representation of freedom in the sense that they have no limit or bound and can trace whatever shape they wish in the sky.
Stranger
This week’s challenge was to tell the story of a stranger. I decided to photograph this simplistic necklace because strangers are often remembered by one characteristic, and the necklace represents a symbol of how a single letter may tell you nothing about a person or stranger.
Aging
This week’s challenge was to tell the story of aging in a photograph. I chose to photograph a wine bottle, symbolizing aging in the sense that wine develops flavor the longer it ages, as well as in the sense that one must age in order to be able to drink it or appreciate it to its full extent.
